WHAT ARE WE VOTING FOR?

Here is a quick presentation of the University’s government bodies and what they do.

MAJOR GOVERNMENT BODIES

As the name suggests, the so-called “Major Government Bodies” concern the University as a whole and are therefore responsible for the management of the functioning of the University at a general level. There are 4 of them:

The Academic Senate is presided over by the Rector and brings together representatives of the Heads of Departments, Professors, PhD Students, Technical-Administrative Staff, and, finally, 4 Student Representatives.

The Academic Senate formulates opinions and proposals regarding teaching and research and approves the regulations for the entire University.

Each year it also gives an opinion on the University budget formulated by the Board of Directors of the University.

The Board of Directors is made up of the Rector, representative of all University staff, 3 members external to the University, and, finally, 2 Students Representatives.

The BoD manages the funds and funding of the University, acting according to the guidelines expressed by the Academic Senate.

The ESU BoD brings together the managers of the Regional Agency for the Right to University Education, representatives of the Region and a Student Representative.

It manages the funds assigned to ESU by the Region and administers the services offered to students by ESU.

The CUS Board of Directors is chaired by the CUS President and includes Representatives a.ppointed by the Rector, including 2 Students Representatives directly elected by students.

The BoD is responsible for organizing CUS activities, for managing its resources and approving its regulations.

COUNCILS FOR THE DEGREE COURSE (CCL)

The CCL is made up of the Professors teaching in that specific degree program, a number of Student Representatives proportional to the number of enrolled students, and a Representative of the Technical-Administrative Staff.

There is a CCL for each degree course, but for some degree classes the CCL for the Bachelor’s and Master’s Course might be unified.

The CCL is responsible for managing the teaching activities of the course, both in terms of quality control on the already offered activities and of constant innovation of the educational offer.

The CCL also evaluates students’ requests for the recognition of credits or exams from previous careers and for the acceptance of non-pre-approved study plans.

SCHOOL COUNCILS

University Schools are bodies that group together the Departements with similar study and research areas.

The University of Padua comprises 8 Schools: School of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine, School of Economics and Political Sciences, School of Law, School of Engineering, School of Medicine and Surgery, School of Psychology, School of Science, and School of Human Sciences.

Each School has its own School Council, made up of the Heads of the Departments it comprises, a number of Student Representatives proportional to the number of students belonging to the School itself, and representatives of the Presidents of degree courses, of the Presidents of the Specialization Schools and of the PhD students of the Departments.

The School Council is responsible for coordinating the teaching activities and scheduling exams and lectures of the Departments that refer to it.

Furthermore, it evaluates proposals for the contents of admissions tests and the inclusion of Additional Educational Obligations (OFA) in the degree courses of the Departments withing its competence.
